Syringes are being found throughout the city, including the common, beaches, and Mack Park neighborhood sidewalks and streets.
If you find a syringe, do not pick it up. Call the Salem police immediately.
In April, Salem resident Christine Derby wrote a letter to the editor of the Salem News, asking that attention be paid to the disposal problems created by the passage in July 2006 of a law allowing the sale of hypodermic needles without prescription.
With children soon to be out of school for the summer, parents should be on alert for syringes, and educating your children about discarded needles should be considered.
If you have concerns about the disposal of needles, and wish to voice your concerns, please contact state Representative John Keenan.
